Retrain The Brain With Positive Affirmations For Anxiety

Positive affirmations can be helpful for several reasons.

When I’m working with a client and I want to “retrain the brain,” I always recommend them.

With anxiety, your mind is filled with negative thinking and you frequently assume the worst possible outcome.

We have to reprogram you—in a good way!

When you have negative thinking, your brain stays primed for that.

We need to feed it some positivity so that your brain doesn’t always assume everything will turn out badly.

10 Ways Positive Affirmation Helps With Anxiety

  1. Shift in Focus: Daily affirmations for anxiety encourage individuals to shift their focus from negative or anxious thoughts to positive and empowering ones. This shift in focus can help interrupt the cycle of negative thinking that often accompanies anxiety.
  2. Reprogramming the Mind: Repeatedly stating affirmations can reprogram the subconscious mind. Over time, the mind begins to accept these positive statements as true, replacing old, limiting beliefs with new, empowering ones. How great does that sound!
  3. Boost in Confidence: Affirmations can boost self-confidence and self-esteem. By consistently reminding oneself of their worth and capabilities, individuals can build a stronger sense of self-belief.
  4. Stress Reduction: Affirmations can induce a sense of calm and reduce stress. When people repeat affirmations that promote relaxation and peace, it can trigger the body’s relaxation response, reducing the physiological effects of stress.
  5. Positive Self-Talk: They promote positive self-talk, which is crucial for mental well-being. Positive self-talk can counteract the harsh, critical inner dialogue that often accompanies anxiety.
  6. Motivation and Goal Achievement: Affirmations can motivate individuals to take positive actions. When people believe in their abilities and potential, they are more likely to pursue their goals and dreams. Anxiety can hold you back in your careers and relationships—we don’t want that!
  7. Resilience: Regular use of affirmations can enhance resilience. They remind individuals of their inner strength and ability to overcome challenges, making them better equipped to handle difficult situations.
  8. Mindfulness and Presence: Affirmations encourage mindfulness and presence in the moment. Repeating affirmations can anchor individuals in the present, reducing rumination about past events or worries about the future. Anxiety is very future-oriented, so the more you stay in the present, the less anxious you will be.
  9. Optimism: Affirmations foster an optimistic outlook. When people focus on positive statements, they are more likely to see the silver lining in situations and approach life with a positive attitude. Though there’s no denying life is challenging, there is still much beauty in it.
  10. Improved Mental Health: Affirmations can contribute to improved mental health. Over time, they can help you manage symptoms of anxiety, depression, and other mental health conditions by promoting a more positive mindset.

It’s important to note that while positive affirmations can be a valuable tool, they are most effective when combined with other strategies for managing anxiety, such as:

  • therapy
  • mindfulness
  • relaxation techniques
  • lifestyle changes

Additionally, the effectiveness of affirmations can vary from person to person, so it’s essential to find the right affirmations that resonate with your personal needs and beliefs.

Please note that you are also welcome to come up with your own daily affirmations! You know best what you really need to hear.

Once you have your favorite affirmations written down, repeat them a few times a day.

What To Do Next

Once you have your favorite affirmations written down, you will want to repeat them a few times a day if possible.

Consistently practicing them (preferably out loud) can shift your mindset and reduce anxiety over time.

You would benefit from using some type of reminder system so you don’t forget to do them.

I often suggest that clients put reminders in their phone along with the actual affirmations.

Do this consistently for 30 days and see the change. Good luck!
